Austin Klumpe is currently in his sixth year teaching business classes, instructing Business Management, Entrepreneurship, Introduction to Business and Financial Literacy.  He is the head coach for boys and girls golf and JV girls basketball coach.  Coach Klumpe has served as a JV girls basketball coach for SM North and head girls basketball coach for SM East before working at SM West.

Before coming to the high school ranks, Klumpe was an assistant women's basketball coach for the Emporia State Lady Hornets (KS), Mary Hardin-Baylor Lady Crusaders (TX), and Murray State College Lady Aggies (OK).  He also served as the graduate assistant men's basketball coach for the Emporia State Hornets while earning his masters in business education.  Klumpe got his start in coaching as a volunteer student assistant for the Emporia State Lady Hornets under coach Brandon Schneider, the current head women's basketball coach for the University of Kansas.

Klumpe earned his bachelor of science in business administration with an emphasis in finance and management from McPherson College, while playing four years of basketball under coach Roger Trimmell.  He grew up in Madison, Kansas and attended Madison High School.

Coach Klumpe enjoys participating in many sports and activities, including strength and conditioning, golf, wake boarding, sand volleyball, hunting, fishing, and competing in triathlons.  He also enjoys researching business content and developing lesson plans to help serve SMSD students every day.
